MC Scow Fleet 4

About MC Scow Fleet 4 Minimize

We are the “Southern-Most” fleet of MCScows based at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club (LESC) in Eustis, Florida.  We race every other weekend on Lake Eustis along with other fleets (Flying Scots, Wayfayers, and Open Portsmouth).  If you have not visited the Lake Eustis website, take the opportunity!  LESC offers boat-loan programs, clubhouse and boat storage, and a junior sailing program for all of its members! Be sure to contact us for more details!

Fleet 4 is one of the oldest MC fleets and has been a fixture on Lake Eustis for 20 years.  We have a showing of 12-25 boats on any given race day with 35 Fleet 4 MCs!  Want to try an MC?  We'll find you a boat for trial.  New to the MC or sailing?  You'll find our group is always happy to give advice and we have many practice races.  We are also beginning a program to keep newer skippers alongside more experienced ones for longer periods of time.  So if you haven't been an MC'er and you live in Florida, come on by and try one!

David Helmick (1712) won the weekend with his usual consistent high finishes. Geoff Moehl (2412) deserves special mention for his two wins back to back on Sunday.  Nice going Geoff. Redress was given to Jeff Nicholas (2483) and Robert Newland (1977) for offering help to a competitor in race # 4.  We should always look out for one another out there. I have seen a number of cases where help has been required for a fellow sailor even when there are safety boats, who are sometimes busy with another problem.  Thanks for your concern.

We had 6 wonderful races in 12 to 18 MPH winds with a record number of sailors for this season's Club races for weekend # 7. David Helmick, Scott Tilema and David Moring dominated the fleet in the heavier air with mostly top three finishes.  It's fun to get close to these top sailors just to see the little extra boat speed and consequent pointing ability they all seem to have over the rest of us.

Scott Tillema and Geoff Moehl had a tight battle for second and third place with good consistent finishes both days. Click below for details.

Scores for Club Racing # 18 Posted - Tuesday, May 17, 2011

When a sailor has a second place finish as a throw out for a series, you know he is red hot. Craig Eaton (2331) did just that by winning 9 out of 16 races in the final series of the year to win the Overall Title in very convincing fashion. Congradulations Craig you had a great season. All of the scores are up to date. Don't forget our Memorial Day fun races and Pot Luck dinner etc. in two weeks.
