MC Scow Fleet 4

About MC Scow Fleet 4 Minimize

We are the “Southern-Most” fleet of MCScows based at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club (LESC) in Eustis, Florida.  We race every other weekend on Lake Eustis along with other fleets (Flying Scots, Wayfayers, and Open Portsmouth).  If you have not visited the Lake Eustis website, take the opportunity!  LESC offers boat-loan programs, clubhouse and boat storage, and a junior sailing program for all of its members! Be sure to contact us for more details!

Fleet 4 is one of the oldest MC fleets and has been a fixture on Lake Eustis for 20 years.  We have a showing of 7-21 boats on any given race day!  Want to try an MC?  We  have extra boats for loan.  New to the MC or sailing?  You'll find our group is always happy to give advice and we have many practice races.  We are also beginning a program to keep newer skippers alongside more experienced ones for longer periods of time.  So if you haven't been an MC'er and you live in Florida, come on by and try one!

Dennis on rails takes 2nd on the weekend! - Monday, April 28, 2008

Senior MC sailor Dennis Oldham (881) proved he's no slouch after 12+ years in the MC taking second place in a winning tie-break with Lee Sayler (2201) in the 2-9 mph airs over this past weekend! Huge holes were everywhere and Dennis seemed to hop from one puff to the next without issue and had 2 huge come-from-behinds to finish in the top few.

David Moring (2188) found the winds more to his strength and put off determined efforts by Jon Pomerleau (2367) and Lee in race #1, Geoff Moehl (2412) and Bob Cole (2350) in race #2, Jon again in race #3, and finally Lee and Dennis together again in race #4 to win 4 straight bullets. Dennis and Cliff Trent (830) proved the old boats are still competitive with the right skipper - Cliff has a 6th in the 3rd race. The first mark of each race was pretty contentious for the whole fleet with the leader and the last boat only a minute apart, though the holes and shifts soon took over and spread the fleet out over 1-1/2 legs.

Last weekend before Memorial Day is in 2 weeks so make sure to come out. Dave Leather (2316) has a cookout planned for Saturday afternoon, so bring a side-dish and be sure to stay over for food and friends!

Weekend Scoring Updates complete to this past weekend! - Monday, April 14, 2008

This weekend was about as perfect as you can get!  With winds 8-15, everyone kept moving and mark roundings were generally tight.  Scott Tillema (2107) shook it up this weekend scoring an almost-perfect weekend to win 1-1-5-1, while Jon Pomerleau (2367) worked the inside looking for any weakness and finished a strong second.  Just behind him, Dave Moorhouse (2074) also had very consistent finishes in the breeze to finish 3rd.  Other strong performances were Len Lesperance with a 5-4, Mike Baldacchino with his first top 5 finish!

For the 4th Series, Scott leads the David Moring (2188) by 2 points who is, in turn, only ahead of Jon by 1 point.  In the Overall, David is leading Jon by a mere 15 points while Dave Moorhouse in 3rd is leading Scott by a mere 6 points.  That is some seriously close racing after 8 months - so come on out and get in the action!  Results are in the "Read More" below - recap to follow soon hopefully!

So many events - so little time! - Friday, February 22, 2008

You will notice that as our racing action gets fast-and-furious, the updates get leaner.  We're currently in our 3rd week of back-to-back weekends and this will continue until after Midwinters!Well, apologies, but I'd rather be sailing!  Seriously, we just concluded the 38th Annual GWB and it was a HUGE success with 130+ boats and 35 MCs as the largest fleet.  Results are at MCScow.org Complete recap from Jamie at Melges (who won the regatta) can be found here, and Dr. Rob Terry's (2nd overall) take on the light air conditions we had for 2 of the races is in our Recaps.  Read More from Rob by clicking below!

Results Updated to 1/19/2008! - Monday, January 28, 2008

Results are updated for the Weekends, Series, and Overall.  We just finished up the Hartge Series and David Moring (2188) pulled out of his funk a bit to take 4 bullets in a row on the year's first weekend to lock the series in.  Dave Moorhouse (2074) barely edged out Lee Sayler (2201) by 1 point to win 2nd place and Lee was only a couple of points ahead of Scott Tillema (2107) and Scott was just barely in 4th with just another few points on Jon Pomerleau (2367) - the points for 2-5th were CLOSE!

On the year's Overall scoreboad, David's showing on the first weekend vaulted him to within a point of Pomerleau, and the "Real DM's" additional 2 bullets on the January 19th put him in 1st for the first time all year!  But gang, its not over yet!  Jon is only 5 points behind and Dave Moorhouse is only 20 behind him in 3rd place!  Stay tuned!

New LESC/Fleet 4 Members! - Friday, February 22, 2008

Long-time Flying Scot sailor Robert Newland, who has been trying out the MC, is the new skipper of MC 1977!  Long-time (and long distance!)  cruising / racing sailor Mike Baldaccino (and long-time multi-generation Moorhi friend) just purchased 2220 with the GWB as his inaugural event on the boat; he has just moved to the Eustis area.  Both these sailors are enthusiastic and have shown great interest in showing up every time - Welcome to Fleet 4 Robert and Mike!

Ray Walker and Jim Lacey join Fleet 4! - Monday, January 07, 2008

Ray bought 968 and had his 1st full Scow weekend this past weekend.  Ray has a background in catamarans and is a welcome addition to the fleet.  Jim Lacey (2162) joins us as a Regatta Member from Lotowana, MO - home of the Tillema clan and so many other great people.  Jim has a winter home in the Tampa Bay area and has been sailing the MC for a few years, but was convinced to come to LESC and sail with us as the ice moved into MO.  Welcome Jim and Ray!

Welcome to Bob Burns in MC 829! - Monday, November 05, 2007

We've seen Bob out sailing for the past couple of weekends, but this weekend marked his first official foray onto the race course!  He came off the water smiling so we know he's already hooked on the MC!
